Catherine Hillis has won numerous awards for her paintings in regional and national competitive exhibitions. In 2010 her painting Round and Round (above right) was featured at the Crary Art Galley in the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society's 31st Annual International Juried Exhibition. We are very pleased to be able to have an entire gallery filled with her work now! The Crary exhibition will focus on city scenes along with paintings depicting the rural area where the artist lives.
Ms. Hillis' paintings have been shown in galleries in Ohio, Virginia and Maryland and took second place in "Best of Virginia Artists and Artisans, 2005" [Kennedy Publications]. In the spring of 2011, one of her paintings will be featured in SPLASH 12, a prestigious annual book which collects 100 top watermedia paintings from across the country. She was awarded an artist-residency in Brittany in 2007, and wrote an article on watercolor painting that was published in American Artist Magazine in 2006.
Ms. Hillis is a signature member of the Southern Watercolor Society, the Pennysylvania Watercolor Society, the Potomac Valley Watercolor Society, the Baltimore Watercolor Society and the Virginia Watercolor Society and a member of the National Watercolor Society.
While in Warren, Ms. Hillis conducted a two day intensive watercolor painting workshop, which had a waiting list of applicants.She has also run workshops in New Mexico and North Carolina, and Tuscany in Spring, 2011. During the Crary Art Gallery 's opening reception, she did a watercolor demonstration that opened the eyes of many to the complexities of creating her beautiful paintings.
