| In a region loosely conforming to the borders of Erie County, there is an unexpected collection of figurative painters. These artists were brought into the area to teach in Edinboro University's Art Department, the recognized leader in arts education among Pennsylvania's fourteen State System Universities. The artists that comprise this group are John Bavaro, Geoffrey Beadle, Rachael Burke, Malcolm Christhilf, Benedict Gibson, Terrence McKelvey, Michelle Vitali and David Warner.
Though using long established forms and materials that are centuries old, these figurative artists are anything but old fashioned. Color, painting techniques, design, and psychological insight are wedded to traditional artistic values, placing these eight painters firmly in the art of our time. The Crary Art Gallery is pleased to present the work of this dynamic group of artists.
Many of the artists will be present on opening day, Sunday, September 4, with the public invited from 1-4pm.
Members-only brunch with the artists begins at Noon before the public reception.
